I’ve been reflecting on the genius of Stevie Wonder after seeing his Songs in the Key of Life arena tour in Philadelphia this weekend. The 21-song, Grammy-winning, double album that is Songs in the Key of Life (SITKOL) is a creative masterpiece that defined him as an artist.
The nostalgia concert was a satisfying ode to the work and he mostly delivers the songs in perfect replica of the original. When he didn’t, it was a musical gift of improvisation and refinement that speaks to his continued genius as a composer, musician and performer.
I was an unabashedly adoring fan wearing a wide smile and dancing my butt off most of the night.
